The Girl Scouts’ Promise

Pacific Northwest Blood Services Region

March 29, 2010

Portland, Ore. — The American Red Cross and the Girl Scouts of Oregon and SW Washington Council, Inc. are teaming up for the seventh annual—Girls Save Lives Blood Drive on Saturday, April 10, 2010. The blood drive will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the American Red Cross Portland donor center, located at 3131 N. Vancouver Avenue. Girl Scouts in the Portland and Vancouver area who participate in the blood drive can earn a special patch and help save a life by bringing an eligible adult donor with them for a scheduled donation appointment.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Call 1-800-RED CROSS between March 22 and April 5 to register your donors for the April 10 blood drive. Donor appointments are required; all interested participants should call to register for the blood drive, and should identify themselves as being with the Girl Scouts.
  2. Girl Scouts bring their donors to the American Red Cross, Portland donor center at 3131 North Vancouver Ave. at their scheduled donation time.

Girl Scouts and their donors will receive Pizza Hut discount coupons. Photo opportunities with the Red Cross mascot will also be available, as well as immediate scrap-booking of photos at a Creative Memories station. Other entertainment for Girl Scouts while their adults donate includes a button-making station, face painting, movies, and a visit by the Rose City Clowns. Blood donors must be at least 16 years old (16 year-olds require a signed Red Cross parental consent form) and meet minimum height and weight requirements.
