Wawa supports American Red Cross with Record Number of Blood Donations During 2011
Philadelphia (Jan. 25, 2012)– The American Red Cross recognized Wawa on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 as the number one Corporate Sponsor for their support of the Red Cross blood program during 2011.
Wawa’s efforts over the last year helped generate more than 4,700 units of blood being donated to the American Red Cross.That’s over 4,700 units of blood that helped to provide a second chance for more than 14,200 hospital patients across the region.
“I want to thank the entire Wawa family for helping to save lives in our community each and every day, and for turning many of their faithful customers and colleagues into life-saving blood donors,” said Brigid O’Neill LaGier, Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross Penn-Jersey Blood Services Region.
Over the last eight years Wawa has hosted 584 American Red Cross Blood Drives, collecting more than 21,000 units of blood and helping to save approximately 65,000 lives across our region.

We are so proud of our Associates’ efforts to host blood drives throughout the year, to volunteer their time and to donate blood” said Howard Stoeckel, Chief Executive Officer of Wawa.
Similar to the Emergency Room of a hospital, the American Red Cross must be prepared to respond to patient emergencies with blood products 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

All blood types are needed, but there is a particular need for people with negative blood types – O-negative, A-negative and
B-negative - to give blood now.
Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental permission in PA and NJ), meet weight and height requirements (110 pounds or more, depending on their height) and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. Please bring your Red Cross blood donor card or other form of positive ID when you come to donate.
