Type O Negative and Type B Negative Blood Donors Needed!

February 23, 2010

As a result of the recent bad weather across the country, on the heels of the holiday season, the blood supply has drastically decreased. Specifically the type O negative and type B negative blood supply level has been severely impacted.

As a loyal American Red Cross supporter and blood donor your help is needed now!

Did you know that type O negative blood can be used for any patient when there is not time to determine the patient’s blood type, so it is crucial that we maintain a sufficient supply. If your blood type is O Negative now is the time to call 1-800-RED CROSS or click here to schedule your blood donation appointment.

Each day, more than 38,000 blood donations are needed in the U.S. Your help is needed to here in the Penn-Jersey Region to help replenish our local blood supply.

If you already have an appointment to donate blood, it is crucial that you keep your commitment to give. If you become ill or unavailable, please ask a friend to donate blood in your place.

Donating blood will not cause you to be more susceptible to the flu. Your resistance to the flu will not be compromised simply by giving blood.

Blood drives are held seven days a week in communities across the region. To make an immediate appointment for an American Red Cross blood drive this week, please call 1-800-RED CROSS, or click here to find a listing of community blood drives

Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental permission in PA and NJ), meet weight and height requirements (110 pounds or more, depending on their height) and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. Please bring your Red Cross blood donor card or other form of positive ID when you come to donate.
