New Jersey Devils Fans Make a Difference with American Red Cross
When it comes to saving lives, for Devils fans “It’s in their blood”!
Newark, NJ (March 31, 2012) - More than 700 Volunteer blood donors came to the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, on Saturday, March 31st, in support of the 5th Annual NJ Devils Blood Drive. Organized by the American Red Cross and the Devils Organization, the massive blood drive began at 6:00 a.m. and continued non-stop until 1:00 p.m.
“Thanks to the overwhelming support from the NJ Devils, their fans, volunteers and media, we were able to collect over 720 units of blood. Ultimately 2,160 lives can potentially be saved because of the efforts from all involved,” said Anthony C. Tornetta, Regional Communications Manager, American Red Cross.
All presenting blood donors received a special event vintage New Jersey Devils baseball cap and t-shirt. These items were created only for those that donated blood during this very special life saving event. Randomly selected donors also received autographed merchandise including jerseys, sticks, pucks and much more. Devils alumni, the Devils Dancers and N.J. Devil were also on hand to meet with fans that attended and donated blood.
The annual event plays a key role in building a stable blood supply and helping to safeguard against a blood shortage.
