Penn-Jersey Blood Services Region

December 13, 2011

More than 800 Volunteer blood donors came to Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday, December 3, for the 4th Annual Philadelphia Eagles Blood Drive.  Organized by the American Red Cross and the Eagles, the massive blood drive began at 6:00 a.m. and continued non-stop until 2:00 p.m.

“This event was truly a championship effort,” said Anthony C. Tornetta, Regional Communications Manager, American Red Cross.  “Thanks to the overwhelming support from the Eagles, fans, volunteers and media, we were able to collect over 780 units of blood.

Ultimately 2,340 lives can potentially be saved because of the efforts from all involved.”

All presenting blood donors at Lincoln Financial Field on December 3rd received plenty of perks including a special event Eagles fleece blanket, and a chance to meet Eagles Legends Tra Thomas, Mike Quick and Merrill Reese. Finally, six lucky donors were randomly selected to win a pair of AAA FanZone Party tickets to the 2012 Season Home Opener.

To date, fans have donated approximately 3,295 units of blood at Eagles Blood Drives – providing a second chance for more than 9,885 hospital patients across the Philadelphia Region.

The annual event plays a key role in building a stable blood supply and helping to safeguard against a winter blood shortage throughout the holiday season.
