Pocono International Raceway and the American Red Cross Honor Victims and Heroes of September 11th with Blood Drives

Northeastern Pennsylvania Region

December 18, 2009

Special remembrance blood drives will be held on September 10th and 11th

WHAT:         For the fourth year in a row, Pocono International Raceway will join together with the American Red Cross to host a September 11th remembrance blood drive at the Pocono Raceway on September 10, 2009. The Pocono International Raceway will also sponsor six blood drives across Pennsylvania on September 11, 2009. Eligible blood donors are encouraged to commemorate the anniversary of September 11th by rolling up their sleeves and giving the gift of life at one of these blood drives.

In addition to honoring the victims and heroes of September 11th, this year’s event will also recognize the heroics of two Pennsylvania state troopers. The blood drives are held with special honor recognition to Trooper Robert Lombardo and in loving memory of Trooper Joshua Miller.

As a thank you to those who support this remembrance blood drive, Pocono Raceway is giving all presenting donors the chance to win a “Fantasy Package.” The winner will receive four Terrace Club seats* and will get to meet all the NASCAR drivers on stage during opening ceremony at the 2010 Pocono 500. There will also be other exciting giveaways and drawings to win. *Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferrable.

To make an appointment to donate blood, please call 1-866-986-9440 or log on to givelife.org and enter Sponsor code: POCONO. Each pint of blood donated could save up to three lives, so please consider marking this anniversary by helping patients in need. It’s a pint for you, but for another it could be a life saved. Individuals who are at least 17 years of age (16 with parental permission), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.  Please bring your Red Cross blood donor card or other form of positive ID when you come to donate. Walk-ins are welcome.
