University City Woman Wins $250 Gas Card from Red Cross
Paying at the Pump is Pain Free this Summer
(University City, MO, Aug. 17, 2011)
Melissa Misiak didn’t have to go far to help save lives. In fact, she didn’t even have to leave her office.
Misiak was one of over 20 presenting donors at an American Red Cross blood drive at her office in Clayton on July 27, and for her efforts she’s getting $250 in gas!
Misiak is one of the latest winners in the Red Cross Be Extraordinary campaign, during which the Red Cross is holding weekly drawings for $250 gas cards. Entering the drawing is simple: just visit a Red Cross blood drive or donation center and sign up to give blood. Through Sept. 5, the Red Cross will hold weekly drawings for the $250 card, while those who attempt to donate blood during the Labor Day holiday weekend will be entered to win a $1,000 gas card. Now that’s a deal!
Misiak’s donation at the Momentum Inc. blood drive was not her first. She’s been donating blood for the past 20 years, and says, “it’s the right thing to do. I would want blood to be there for me if I ever needed it.”
For those who have never attempted to give blood, Misiak offers some simple advice: “Just try. It’s not painful, it’s not nearly as scary as most people think, and you can make a huge difference.”
As for the gas card, Misiak says she should have no trouble making good use of it. “It’s going to come in really handy for me. I travel a ton for my job.”
Blood donations like Misiak’s are especially important now as the Red Cross tries to rebound from historically low blood donations in May and June. More than 500,000 blood donations are needed in August to help the Red Cross keep up with demand.
Paying at the pump could be pain free for you, too. Anyone who presents to donate blood with the Red Cross now through Sept. 5 is automatically entered into a drawing for a $250 gas card. On Labor Day weekend, anyone presenting to donate Friday through Monday is automatically entered into a drawing for a $1,000 gas card.
Plus, anyone who presents to donate blood Wednesday, May 25 through Wednesday, Sept. 14 is automatically entered into the Red Cross Racing “Summer Drive Sweepstakes” to win a brand new 2012 red candy metallic Ford Fiesta SE, courtesy of Ford Motor Company. One winner is selected by random drawing on Monday, Sept. 19. For more information, or to schedule your summer blood donation appointment, please visit redcrossracing.com or call 1-800-RED CROSS.
