Julia Winkler Died from Brain Cancer
WEBSTER GROVES, Mo. (Sept. 28, 2012) — Students and staff at Edgar Road Elementary School in Webster Groves are joining the American Red Cross in saying goodbye to a former student and classmate who died from an aggressive form of brain cancer. Nine-year-old Julia Winkler died this past winter in her hometown in Louisiana.
Julia’s family moved to the Webster Groves area in 2005 following Hurricane Katrina. Julia attended Edgar Road Elementary until last year, when her family moved back home.
The school and the Red Cross invite the local community to honor Julia at the Julia Winkler Memorial Blood Drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 10 at Edgar Road Elementary, 1131 Edgar Road, Webster Groves, Mo.
School officials described Julia as a well-liked student among her peers and said the blood drive is intended as a way for friends and staff to remember her.
Blood collected at the Julia Winkler Memorial Blood drive may help cancer patients, accident victims and other patients in need. Walk-ins are welcome, though appointments are preferred.
