Annual blood drive in memory of Bridget Kurz
Kurz Died Following 2010 Car Accident
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. (Oct. 29, 2012) -- The family of a local woman who died following a car accident in 2010 is joining the American Red Cross in inviting the Kirksville community to honor her life by donating blood on Nov. 17, 2012.
The family of Bridget Kurz, the Red Cross and blood drive sponsor Elliott Pharmacy invite the community to give blood during the third annual Bridget Kurz Memorial Blood Drive on Saturday, Nov. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, 716 E. Washington, Kirksville, Mo.
Kurz died at the age of 24 following a car accident and subsequent surgery. She received blood transfusions in an attempt to save her life, and sister Mindy Kurz cited that as one reason the family chose to host a memorial blood drive.
“Holding this blood drive lets us feel like we are giving back to those who have helped us,” she said.
Mindy described Bridget as someone who always strived to support those in need, and the family wants to share that giving spirit with others.
“Bridget always wanted to help others, and if this blood drive helps us to help others, it is worth it,” Mindy said.
Blood collected at the Bridget Kurz Memorial Blood Drive comes at an important time for the Red Cross. Blood supplies are still low following the summer months, and all blood types are needed.
