GIVE THE GIFT OF LIFE DURING ANNUAL BLOOD DRIVE CAMPAIGN
NECN to Telecast Live from American Red Cross Dedham Donor Center; Presenting Donors Will Receive Comcast On Demand Movie Coupons* on January 26
For the eighth year in a row, the American Red Cross, NECN and Comcast have joined together to help patients in need by increasing the blood supply and raising awareness about the ongoing need for blood donors.
On Thursday, January 26, the Red Cross is hosting blood drives across New England to help collect blood for patients in need. NECN Chief Meteorologist Matt Noyes will broadcast live from the Dedham Donor Center throughout the day beginning at 6:45 a.m. During the telecast, Noyes will interview Red Cross officials and blood donors in an effort to increase awareness for the need and to collect 2012 units of blood that day.
The “Celebrate the Gift of Life” blood drive campaign runs throughout the winter months when blood supplies are often critically low due to severe weather and flu season. Patients in area hospitals need blood every day, and just one pint of blood from a donor can help save up to three lives. With the “Celebrate the Gift of Life” campaign, the Red Cross is better able to keep blood on hospital shelves so it is available when it is most needed.
Additionally, Comcast held blood drives for its employees at office locations throughout New England this week. To encourage customers to help support the community blood supply, Comcast is offering an On Demand movie coupon* to presenting donors at the Dedham Donor Center only on January 26.
All presenting blood donors who come out to donate during the month of January will receive a coupon for a free pound of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee*. To make an appointment to donate blood at a “Celebrate the Gift of Life” blood drive on January 26 from 6:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., please call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or log onto redcrossblood.org.
