The American Red Cross and Bob’s Discount Furniture are teaming up for the 2nd annual Bob’s Discount Furniture $100,000 High School Heroes Scholarship Program.  The program recognizes outstanding high school seniors in Massachusetts and Connecticut who have made exceptional contributions to their schools’ volunteer blood donor programs.

High Schools who host at least two blood drives per year and achieve an annual participation rate of at least 30% of the age-eligible student population will be eligible to win a base scholarship of $250 dollars.  Schools will also be eligible to win additional scholarships up to a grand prize scholarship in the amount of $8,000 dollars. More information and a complete list of rules can be found on mybobs.com.

The official scholarship program kick-off was held at Gillette Stadium last month during an exciting mega super blood drive. Bob’s Discount Furniture, the Red Cross and the New England Patriots collected a record breaking 696 units of lifesaving blood at the stadium, which could help save up to 2,088 lives.  Twelve recliners and a living room set donated by Bob’s Discount Furniture, an autographed football and Patriots tickets were given away to lucky attendees.

Since 1996, Bob Kaufman and Bob’s Discount Furniture have been supporting the Red Cross in New England by hosting blood drives at Bob’s Discount Furniture stores.  Through the generosity of Bob, employees, customers and members of the community, Bob’s Discount Furniture Blood Drives have collected 34,095 units of lifesaving blood.

“Bob’s Discount Furniture is proud to support the Red Cross effort to ensure a safe and plentiful blood supply for those in need while honoring our student leaders who support the Red Cross,” said Bob Kaufman, Bob’s Discount Furniture Founder.

“Bob’s Discount Furniture makes the difference in the lives of patients by its outstanding commitment to support the Red Cross Blood Services,” said Donna M. Morrissey, American Red Cross Blood Services - Northeast Division Director of Communications.  “The Red Cross applauds Bob’s Discount Furniture for their Bob’s Discount Furniture $100,000 High School Heroes Scholarship Program which honors high school seniors who contribute to the community blood supply for patients and hospitals.”
