Salt Lake City, Utah, September 20, 2010 – This year the National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU) in Ogden will host an American Red Cross blood drive as its charitable activity during the annual Labor Recognition Days activities on September 22 and 23, 2010.
“Every year we include a charitable activity as part of our Labor Recognition Days,” said NTEU Chapter 67’s Labor Day Recognition Day Coordinator Camille Gilmore. “We recognize the valuable service the Red Cross provides in maintaining a safe blood supply and are delighted to help.”
The blood drive will be conducted in one of the American Red Cross bloodmobiles on Wednesday, September 22 from 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM just outside Lindquist Field in Ogden, UT where the NTEU activities are held.
Jesse Holt, Red Cross donor recruitment representative for the Ogden area, said, “The American Red Cross is very pleased that NTEU approached us and asked us to organize a blood drive. We need to collect 440 units of blood every day in Utah to meet the demands of the 33 hospitals we serve. Community-minded organizations like NTEU really help make a difference.
Other activities of NTEU’s Labor Recognition Days will include performances by local bands, 30 local vendors with craft activities, face painting for the kids, basketball games, kickball games, Frisbee golf, and more. The Ogden Raptors minor league baseball club will sell food and the public is welcome to attend this event.
Gilmore added that, “There are 7,000 local IRS employees who perform a variety of services for the American people. The union organizes this day of recognition to demonstrate its appreciation and to help the agencies succeed.”
