Montana State University pulled out a win over the University of Montana in November as the school to collect more blood in the sixth annual Brawl of the Wild Blood Drive Challenge.

The Cats defeated the Grizzlies with 214 presenting donors in Bozeman to 166 in Missoula. Between the two campuses, 286 units of blood were collected according to American Red Cross donor recruitment representative Thomas Hensley.

While MSU's goal was 170 units, Hensley counts the blood drive as a win for the school because they not only topped UM, but also because 156 units is a major boost to the Red Cross’ blood inventory.

UM may have succumbed to MSU this year, but the spirit of the challenge makes the event fun for all donors said Julie Brehm, donor recruiter in Missoula. Currently the challenge is tied at three wins for each school.

This is the sixth year for the friendly blood drive competition. Last year, the Grizzlies edged a win over the Bobcats with 11 more presenting donors.
