BYU Donor Wins Scooter

Lewis and Clark Blood Services Region

Dan McNeece, a computer programmer for BYU, won the Phantom 150cc scooter offered by the American Red Cross to Utah blood donors last month.  Dan took possession of his new vehicle on Monday, August 10 at the Red Cross Orem Donor Center.

But, Utahns who present to donate blood to the Red Cross in August will have an opportunity to win another Phantom 150cc scooter.  Russ Temple Motors in Orem is sponsoring in part the donation of the scooters.  The drawing will be held on September 8, 2009.

The summer months are a difficult time to collect blood because even regular donors take vacations.  In addition, high schools, which are a dependable venue for blood drives during the school year, are out for the summer and there aren’t as many students available on college campuses.

Studies show that most blood donors donate for altruistic reasons.  But American Red Cross blood collectors, who provide blood used in 33 Utah hospitals, know that during the difficult-to-collect summer months, it doesn’t hurt to add a little fun to the process.
