The 10th Annual FOX 13 “Reach Out Utah” holiday blood drive was held at the Salt Lake Donor Centeron December 21 from 6:00 AM until 6:00 PM. The goal for the drive, 450 procedures, was far exceeded as more than 500 presenting donors came to donate blood resulting in 539 units.

Big Budah and other FOX 13 celebrities were present at the “Reach Out Utah” blood drive and broadcast remote reports throughout the day.

FOX 13 has been the media sponsor of the blood drive for 10 years, helping the Red Cross to encourage donations during the holiday season when it is often difficult to collect blood.

Joining FOX 13 again this year was radio station 97.1 ZHT.  The station and its popular disc jockey “AJ” are long-time supporters of Red Cross blood collections.  The “Reach Out Utah” blood drive marks the third time this year that the station has conducted a remote broadcast from the donor center.

Harmon’s provided breakfast for donors and Subway provided lunch.  The Knights of Columbus once again provided volunteer support for the drive.

Each presenting donor received a free long-sleeved t-shirt, a holiday pin and a $5 gift certificate to Iggy’s Sports Grill and was eligible to enter a drawing to win Alta ski passes, gift certificates and Red Cross gift packages.

Although this blood drive is finished, the Red Cross holds blood drives almost every day.
