October 13, 2011

The American Red Cross Blood Services region offices in Murray needs volunteer couriers and help on its phone team.

According to Vickie Morgan, volunteer coordinator, “We depend on volunteers. Volunteers constitute 96 percent of the American Red Cross’ total work force.”

Morgan explained that the phone team consists of volunteers who call blood donors to remind them of their donation appointments, schedule appointments, or simply call to say thank you. “We are looking for people with a warm and friendly manner who enjoy communicating with people of all ages and backgrounds,” Morgan said. The phone team volunteers are welcome to set their own schedule anytime Monday – Friday 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.  All calling is made from the regional headquarters on 6616 So. 900 East, Salt Lake City, UT.

The couriers are needed to transport blood products from the Red Cross to area hospitals.

Someone in Utah needs blood every eight minutes. The Red Cross strives to collect 440 units every day to meet the needs of the more than 30 Utah hospitals.
