January 14 is Rivermen Day at the American Red Cross Peoria Blood Donation Center!
PEORIA, Ill. (January 9, 2012) – The Peoria Rivermen have named the American Red Cross their January 2012 Captain’s Cause! Throughout the month of January, the Rivermen will help raise awareness about the many lifesaving services the American Red Cross provides in central Illinois – including disaster relief, health and safety programs, and blood collection and distribution.
“We’re so excited to partner with the Peoria Rivermen,” said Shelly Heiden, CEO of the American Red Cross Heart of America Blood Services Region. “We know how many loyal fans they have throughout the Peoria area. We hope all those fans who are eligible will step up to help save lives by donating blood in January.”
January 14 will be Peoria Rivermen Day at the Peoria Blood Donation Center. All presenting donors will receive two tickets to that night’s home game at Carver Arena so they can cheer the Rivermen on to victory against the Houston Aeros!
The Central Illinois Chapter of the American Red Cross will have a table set up on the concourse at the arena during the January 14 game to share information about the importance of having a designated driver. American Red Cross representatives will appear on WMBD This Morning on Friday, January 13 to share information about this fun partnership. About the American Red Cross
Governed by volunteers and supported by giving individuals and communities, the American Red Cross is the single largest supplier of blood products to hospitals throughout the United States. While local hospital needs are always met first, the Red Cross also helps ensure no patient goes without blood no matter where or when they need it. In addition to providing nearly half of the nation’s blood supply, the Red Cross provides relief to victims of disaster, trains millions in lifesaving skills, serves as a communication link between U.S. military members and their families, and assists victims of international disasters or conflicts.
