Heart of America

July 5, 2009

PEORIA, Ill. – The Firecracker Fly-Away ended with a bang this morning, as Cynthia Diederich from Normal, Ill. won the grand prize.

Diederich's winning raffle ticket was pulled live on WMBD This Morning. She won two round-trip tickets to anywhere Allegiant Air flies. (Some restrictions apply.) The tickets were donated by Allegiant Air and the Prairie Air Show.

All presenting donors at thirteen special drives throughout Central Illinois were eligible to win.

"Thanks to the generosity of our donors and our sponsors, we collected more than 1000 units of blood over the holiday period," said Shelly Heiden, CEO of the Heart of America Blood Services Region." That blood could help save up to 3000 lives, and we couldn't be more grateful."

Don't forget to stop by the Prairie Air Show, July 10 – 12, at the General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport. Enjoy performances by the United States Air Force Thunderbirds, demonstrations by the United States Marine Corps AV-8B Harrier, or a ride in a famous UH-1 "Huey" helicopter.

About the American Red Cross

In addition to providing nearly half of the nation's blood supply, the Red Cross provides relief to victims of disaster, trains millions in lifesaving skills, serves as a communication link between U.S. military members and their families, and assists victims of international disasters or conflicts.
