Bay Regional joins American Red Cross network of 80 hospitals across Michigan

The American Red Cross recently announced that it is now providing service to Bay Regional Medical Center in Bay City. The medical center joins approximately 80 hospitals across Michigan that receives blood products through the Red Cross.

“It has long been our policy to be committed to serving the needs of local hospitals first,” said Sharon Jaksa, CEO for The American Red Cross Great Lakes Blood Services. “We are excited that Bay Regional Medical Center has joined the list of Michigan hospitals we serve.”

The American Red Cross is the single largest blood collection and distribution organization in the United States, providing blood products to nearly 3,000 hospitals nationwide, about 60 in the Great Lakes Region alone.

“We are proud to partner with The American Red Cross in helping to save lives in the Great Lakes Bay Region,” said Kurt Miller, Bay Regional Medical Center Director of Marketing and Public Relations. “We are confident that the Red Cross has the best interest of our patients in mind and will work around the clock to ensure that we have the blood products we need when our patients need them.”

The American Red Cross screens its blood donations with state-of-the-art tests, cutting-edge equipment and advanced quality system. The American Red Cross relies on its Bay City Chapter on Washington Avenue to help collect blood in Bay County. The chapter employs local staff members to coordinate local blood drives, working with more than 8,000 Bay City volunteers every year.

Bay Regional Medical Center has developed a full continuum of health care since merging four hospitals in the 1970s and 1980s. The medical center provides award-winning cardiovascular, orthopedic and neurosurgery services, as well as comprehensive rehabilitation, home health and hospice care, and a 24-hour Level II emergency department.
