Lansing, MIThe American Red Cross Great Lakes Blood Services Region, in partnership with Hurley Health & Fitness Center of Flint have joined forces this February to promote healthy living among blood donors. Two blood donors have already benefited from the promotion.

This month, the Red Cross has partnered with Hurley Health to offer all presenting donors the opportunity to win a free, three-month gym membership.  Bryan Rock, a donor from Flint, was the first week’s winner.  Rock donates because he says ‘he knows the importance and loves giving back.’

Throughout the month of February, everyone who attempts to donate blood or platelet at the Flint Donor Center, 1401 S. Grand Traverse, have a chance to win a three-month membership to Hurley Health & Fitness.

Due to poor weather conditions, the American Red Cross has experienced a shortfall of 28,000 units of blood across the country since the beginning of January.   In an effort to maintain a healthy blood supply the American Red Cross Great Lakes Blood Services Region and other Regions across the country have issued a nationwide appeal.

As the quantity of blood donors typically decreases during the winter months it’s even more important that those who are eligible to donate come forward to make an appointment and donate blood.
