Lansing, MI - The American Red Cross Great Lakes Blood Services Region, in partnership with Gym Bumz of Lansing, are joining forces this February to promote healthy living among blood donors.  Two donors have already been rewarded.

This month, the Red Cross has partnered with Gym Bumz to offer all presenting donors the opportunity to win a free, three-month gym membership.  Christine VanNada of East Lansing is one of two winners selected this week.

“My particular blood type is high in demand and it’s important for me to donate so lives can possibly be saved”, said VanNada. “It’s compelling that a simple donation can have a life-changing impact”.

Jack Benac of Laingsburg is a loyal Red Cross blood donor with 229 donations and is the second winner this week for a three-month gym membership. Benac has a personal reason donating blood.

“My father, a WWII veteran, taught me the importance of donation because of his service in WWII and I continue to carry it out,” Benac said.

Throughout the month of February, everyone who attempts to donate blood or platelets at the Lansing Donor Center, 1729 E. Saginaw, have a chance to win a three-month memberships to Gym Bumz.   This is one way the Red Cross is providing extra incentives for eligible donors to make an appointment to donate.

Due to poor weather conditions, the American Red Cross has experienced a shortfall of 28,000 units of blood across the country since the end of January.   In an effort to maintain a healthy blood supply the American Red Cross Great Lakes Blood Services Region and other Regions across the country have issued a nationwide appeal.  As the quantity of blood donors typically decreases during the winter months it’s even more important that those who are eligible to donate come forward to make an appointment and donate blood.
