17th Annual Michigan State - Penn State Blood Challenge
Spartan Fans Rally to Save Lives
East Lansing, MI – It’s that time of year again when the American Red Cross encourages Michigan State University students, staff, alumni and fans to show their Spartan pride by rolling up their sleeves to save lives during the 17th Annual MSU-PSU Blood Challenge November 1 – 18.
MSU has only won five times in the challenge’s history, and Penn State has taken the Blood Challenge trophy for the past four consecutive years.
“This year we are getting the local businesses more involved to help drum up enthusiasm for this year’s challenge,” said Sharon Jaksa, CEO of the American Red Cross Great Lakes Blood Services Region. “With our football team excelling, we hope to see more Spartan fans show their pride by making an appointment to donate blood.”
The winner will be announced at the November 27 game, when the Spartans take on the Nittany Lions at Penn State. The official challenge trophy will be presented after the game.
The 2010 MSU-PSU Blood Challenge kicks off this year at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 1 atBuffalo Wild Wings in East Lansing (360 Albert Ave.). A few of the scheduled speakers at the event include: Sharon Jaksa, CEO of the American Red Cross Great Lakes Blood Services Region; Mayor Vic Loomis, City of East Lansing; Peter Eichler, Douglas J Salons; Robin Matheson, Booking Manager, MSU Campus Living Services.
Many local businesses have partnered with the Red Cross for this year’s event, offering every presenting donor special incentives to come out to donate.
“We are proud of to support the American Red Cross,” said Jennifer Chopp, Community Relationship Program Lead for Best Buy Michigan Market, “and we hope we can help bring home a win for this year’s challenge.”
All presenting donors will be entered for a chance to win:
- Two (2) service packages from Douglas J Salon, a personal tailgate party for eight (8) from Buffalo Wild Wings the weekend of the game, and a night’s stay at the Marriott
- $250 gift certificate to Eastwood Towne Center
- A gift certificate to Ned’s Bookstore
- An Ipod from Best Buy
Donors during the challenge will also receive a Red Cross t-shirt and pizza from Cottage Inn.
