Petoskey, MI—August 12—Petoskey banks and credit unions are ‘out for blood’ in a friendly competition to help maintain a healthy blood supply during the summer months.  The American Red Cross and six Petoskey-area financial institutions are joining forces for the 13th Annual “Invest to Help Save Lives” blood battle.

The summer months can be among the most challenging of the year for blood donations as many regular donors become busy with summer vacations and travel and delay making an appointment to give blood.  The need for blood also goes up during the summer as increased traffic on the roadways and waterways leads to more trauma-related accidents, increasing hospitals’ need for blood products.

“We hit our goal during last year’s battle and we’re hoping to collect 37 pints of blood this year,” said American Red Cross Donor Recruitment Representative Biz Bauer.  “We encourage all eligible donors to join our mission to help save lives.”

The 13th Annual “Invest to Help Save Lives” blood drive will be held from 10AM to 3:45PM, Thursday, August 22 at the St. Francis Parch Hall (513 Howard Street) in Petoskey.

Participating in this year’s challenge:  Fifth Third Bank, First Community Bank, Huntington Bank, Northwestern Bank/Bank of Bay Harbor, PNC Bank and St. Francis Federal Credit Union. The business that garners the most ‘votes’ from donors wins the challenge and will receive a traveling plaque and bragging rights until next year’s challenge.
