Give “The Perfect Gift” this Holiday Season: Blood Donation Video Goes Viral
December 17, 2009
The American Red Cross South Central Division introduced their 2009 holiday video, “The Perfect Gift,” on November 2. Since that day, the video has taken on a viral life of its own with Red Cross reps reporting “The Perfect Gift” has been posted on Facebook pages, twitter sites and emails from California to Georgia, and many points in between. The video has also been shown in 21 foreign countries including: Austria, Canada, India, Germany, UK, Kenya, South Korea, Japan and Israel just to name a few.
While it is difficult to measure the actual number of hits, the video’s website, redcrossgift.org and other outlets are reporting a total viewing number at close to ten thousand.
“We’re really excited that so many people both here and across the world have seen ‘The Perfect Gift,’ ” said Darren Irby, Senior Marketing Director, American Red Cross South Central Division. “We think the important take-away from viewing the video is that saving someone’s life with a blood donation is a wonderful way to celebrate the holidays.”
The South Central Division, a 7 state region of the American Red Cross, also recently began using texting as another way to connect with donors. Introduced in October, the texting program has already proved to be an important and valuable tool for connecting with donors. You can join the Red Cross texting program by sending redcross to 42227. Those opting in will receive emergency inventory notifications, on-going education information or help finding a convenient blood drive location.
The Perfect Gift is a three minute video providing a unique way to motivate people to give blood during the holiday season and takes the viewer on a search for the perfect holiday present. The video ends with the truth that the perfect gift is one that can save another...a blood donation.
Filled with cutting edge graphics “The Perfect Gift” shares its powerful message without one word being spoken. From the first refrain until the final logo slide, “The Perfect Gift’s” unforgettably emotional trip successfully captures the impact of saving another's life with a blood donation.
