 Site provides convenient access and ample parking for blood and platelet donors.

     The Greater Alleghenies Blood Services Region opened its new blood and platelet donor center in Altoona, PA, to the public on March 29.  The opening culminated months of planning, including an extensive site selection process and site preparation, in order to provide you with more convenient access and ample parking.

    The new site, located in Suite K of the Orchard Plaza, 415 Orchard Avenue, replaces the organization’s former blood donation facility at 317 E. Pleasant Valley Boulevard.  

     Blood donor hours remain the same, Tuesdays, from noon to 6 pm, and from 8 am to 2 pm the first Saturday of every other month. Appointments are encouraged; individuals may schedule online (link to www.redcrossblood.org) or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

     Platelet donations are available by appointment only, with the donation days and timeslots remaining the same: Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; the first, fourth and fifth Saturday; and second, third and fourth Sunday. Individuals should call 1-800-542-5663, ext. 2637, to schedule a platelet donation appointment.

     In addition to housing both blood and platelet donations, the more spacious Orchard Plaza location allows the Red Cross to dispatch a team of blood drive workers, vehicles, equipment and supplies to area blood drives. Previously all local blood drives were supported by teams, vehicles and equipment dispatched from the region’s Johnstown headquarters.
