Be an everyday hero during Red Cross Month
Greater Alleghenies Blood Services Region
Blood donors are everyday heroes who help save lives. March is Red Cross Month and a time to thank these heroes and encourage others to join their ranks.
March was first proclaimed Red Cross Month in 1943 by former President Franklin Roosevelt. Since then, every president has called on people across America to support the organization’s humanitarian mission in March. The Red Cross has been helping people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies for more than 130 years.
Since World War II, the Red Cross has met the needs of patients throughout the U.S. and today partners with nearly 2,700 hospitals and transfusion centers, providing blood products and specialized laboratory services. From cancer patients to accident victims to premature babies, someone needs blood every two seconds.
