Greater Chesapeake & Potomac Region

March 1, 2011

All Presenting Blood Donors Get Free Six-Inch Sub*

WASHINGTON, D.C.- March is Red Cross Month. To celebrate, the American Red Cross Greater Chesapeake and Potomac (GC&P) Blood Services Region and SUBWAY® are partnering to help increase the blood supply and raise awareness about the need for blood donations.During the month of March 2011, all presenting blood donors in the greater Washington, D.C. area will receive a coupon from SUBWAY® for a free six-inch sub*, redeemable at participating SUBWAY Restaurant locations.

The promotion helps to ensure that the community blood supply is maintained. Blood is an essential component for patient care in area hospitals, and the only source of blood is a healthy, volunteer blood donor. About every two seconds someone in America needs blood, and one donation can help save up to three lives.

“We’re grateful to SUBWAY for their willingness to offer a six-inch sub to our generous blood donors,” said Gary J. Ouellette, CEO of the GC&P Region of the Red Cross. “We’re confident that this partnership with SUBWAY will increase awareness about the need for blood and we’re pleased to offer this special promotion as a token of our gratitude to donors who give lifesaving blood for patients in need.”

All eligible donors are asked to call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit www.redcrossblood.org to schedule an appointment to donate.
