Redskins Blood Drive Saturday and Ceremonial Game Sunday
In an effort to combat seasonal blood shortages and promote frequent blood donation, the Washington Redskins have teamed up with the American Red Cross, Greater Chesapeake and Potomac (GC&P) Region, to host Redskins-themed blood drives throughout the 2010-2011 season. The next Redskins blood drive will take place this Saturday at the Crowne Plaza, 901 North Fairfax St., Alexandria, VA 22314 from 8 am – 4pm. More than 400 fans have registered for this special blood drive. All participants will receive a Redskins vs. Colts game ticket courtesy of the American Red Cross* as a special thank you for donating. APPOINTMENTS ARE REQUIRED.
“The American Red Cross is a proud partner of the Redskins and we’re honored to see that grow to help our community even more,” said Gary J. Ouellette, CEO for the GC&P Region of the Red Cross. “With the Redskins support of our mission, we can now offer potential blood donors a special Redskins incentive and experience, which will help to stabilize blood supplies during some of the more challenging times of year. This will help ensure that we continue meet the needs of all local hospitals and patients.”
During this Sunday’s Redskins vs. Colts game at FedExField on October 17th, the Red Cross and Redskins will celebrate their lifesaving partnership with pre-game and halftime ceremonial events. President of the American Red Cross Biomedical Services, Shaun Gilmore, will serve as the honorary coin-toss observer for the game. Red Cross representatives will also take the field at halftime to recognize the partnership.
“The Redskins are committed to help the Red Cross provide a safe and adequate blood supply for our communities and raise awareness on the importance of blood donation,” said Mitch Gershman, CMO, of the Washington Redskins.
