“With the Orioles' support, we are able to offer potential blood donors a unique Orioles incentive during a critical time for collecting blood donations,” said Gary J. Ouellette, CEO for the GC&P Region of the Red Cross. “More than 600 local donation appointments had to be cancelled because of the storm and the Orioles' immediate support helps us recover from that deficit and maintain an adequate blood supply for our local hospitals and patients. The Red Cross encourages all eligible blood donors to attend and we thank the Orioles community for continuing to help save lives. ”
Nearly 1,000 area participants attended Baltimore Orioles blood drives this summer, with total donations helping as many as 2,700 area hospital patients in need of a blood transfusion. Every day, the GC&P Region of the Red Cross must collect more than 1,200 volunteer blood donations to meet the needs of local patients in more than 50 area hospitals.
“The Orioles are committed to help the Red Cross raise awareness on the importance of blood donation and to help provide a safe and adequate blood supply for our communities,” said Greg Bader, Director, Communications for the Baltimore Orioles.
