Donate blood Nov. 21

GOODLAND, Kan. (Nov. 11, 2013) — Dedicated men and women in uniform dutifully serve the public every day by responding to local emergencies and keeping the streets safe. Now, they are joining forces to help save lives in a different way.

For the fourth consecutive year, the Sherman County Sheriff’s Office, Goodland Fire Department, Goodland Police Department and local EMS will “battle” to see who can bring in the most blood donors. Community members who donate blood can vote for their favorite group. The winning agency gets bragging rights for the year as well as a traveling trophy.

Goodland Battle of the Badges blood drive:

Nov. 21 from noon to 6 p.m. at Harvest Evangelical Free Church, 521 Old US Highway 24, Goodland

How to donate blood

Simply call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental consent in some states), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
