Give Blood, Get Free Admission to Zoo

Red, White & You Community Blood Drive – July 1-3

Wichita, KansasJune 2010 Most Americans will celebrate the Fourth of July with parades, cookouts and fireworks. The American Red Cross encourages you to start a new family tradition this summer – giving blood.

Your donation of blood during the Red, White & You Community Blood Drive, July 1 to 3, at the Sedgwick County Zoowill ensure the Red Crosscan keep blood on hospital shelves throughout the summer. This time of year, donations usually decrease because people are taking vacations and schools are not having blood drives.

Everyone who comes out to donate during the Red, White & You Community Blood Drive will receive a commemorative T-shirt, a ticket for free admission to the Zoo, and $4 entry per person to the Zoo for immediate family members — a family of four can get in for $12, when it would normally cost $37. These discount tickets may be used through July 5, 2010.

“Last year, the Red, White & You event raised 774 units of blood, and this year we hope to exceed this amount,” said Terri Dunaway, Interim CEO, Central Plains Region. “Please encourage your friends and family to come out for this event and help us boost our collections during the difficult summer months.”

Children’s movies will be shown in the theater throughout the drive. The whole process takes about an hour.
