New bloodmobile for Central Ohio funded by Nationwide Insurance Foundation
December 10, 2009
The American Red Cross held a ribbon cutting for a new bloodmobile funded by the Nationwide Insurance Foundation on Thursday, Dec. 10, at the Nationwide Arena outdoor plaza. The event marked the opening of the bus for the community and the first blood donations were taken after the ceremony.
Thanks to the Nationwide Insurance Foundation who provided funds for the new vehicle, the bus will serve a vital role in the growth of blood donations in Central Ohio. The bus features five donation beds, and will allow the American Red Cross to collect more then 9,300 life-saving blood donations a year, to be used by patients being treated at 39 Ohio hospitals. This is one of four buses funded nationally by the Nationwide Insurance Foundation since 2007.
The ribbon cutting event featured comments from:
- Michael Carroll, CEO of the American Red Cross of Greater Columbus
- Dr. Ambrose Ng, CEO of the American Red Cross Central Ohio Blood Region
- Chad Jester, President of the Nationwide Insurance Foundation
- Karen Blickley, multi-gallon blood donor and Director of the Nationwide Insurance Foundation
In addition to helping saves lives, those who came to donate blood at this special blood drive event enjoyed treats provided by Starbucks Coffee and Buca DiBeppo and coupons from Chipotle, O’Shaughnessy’s, and Gordon Biersch.
