Central Ohio

January 26, 2010

Stephanie Crigger,

donated her winning donation

at Mac Tools in Columbus

Central Ohio residents rolled up their sleeves to give at least three meaningful gifts this past holiday season without visiting stores, browsing catalogs, or shopping on-line.

By donating blood through the American Red Cross, community members helped save the lives of up to three people and entered to win a grand prize drawing for a $1,000 shopping spree at Easton Town Center.

The grand prize winner, Stephanie Crigger, donated her 12th and winning donation at Mac Tools in Columbus.

Donors like Stephanie who take the time to give back during the holiday season help ensure a safe and stable blood supply.

Blood donations can taper off between Thanksgiving and New Year’s when people are busy with shopping, planning festivities or gatherings, community and family activities, or travel. Conversely, blood needs can increase as people injured in seasonal roadway accidents may require emergency transfusions.

Regardless of the time of year, the Central Ohio Region of the American Red Cross needs about 650 people to come to donate blood every day to ensure an adequate supply of blood for patients in 39 Ohio hospitals.

To schedule an appointment to donate please call 1-800-RED CROSS or visit redcrossblood.org for more information.
