  The American Red Cross Central Ohio Blood Services still faces a critical blood shortage and continues to appeal for blood donors.

  Despite the ongoing efforts to call and e-mail blood donors, the local Red Cross is unable to meet many blood orders for local hospitals in the timeliest manner. Due to the low supplies some orders, particularly type O-negative, have been put on back order.

As temperatures rise across Ohio, blood donations have dipped.  Since the beginning of June, the local Red Cross has seen nearly a 10 percent dip in blood donations, and is currently about 400 donations short from the target need.
