Sickle Cell Donor Outreach Specialist

Location
Various sites throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey

Purpose
Educate persons about and promote the Sickle Cell Donor Program

Key Responsibilities

  • Willingness to support Red Cross Mission
  • Punctual and dependable in arriving for assignment(s)
  • Attend local outreach opportunities.  Opportunities may include, but are not limited to: Faith-Based events, health fairs, community fairs, blood drives
  • Promote blood donation in the Black community through the Sickle Cell Donor Program. Schedule appointments when appropriate.
  • Correspond regularly with Community Outreach Program Manager to ensure that information presented is up-to-date and share experiences/questions/ concerns in a timely manner

Relationships

  • Works closely with American Red Cross staff, volunteer and paid and community members

Qualifications

  • Minimum age of 18 years
  • Ability to effectively communicate with diverse populations
  • Good communication, customer service and public relations abilities
  • Knowledge and understanding of Sickle Cell disease

Training

  • Orientation to American Red Cross Penn-Jersey Blood Services Region
  • American Red Cross Blood Service Volunteer Training
  • Sickle Cell Donor Program Training

Length of Service

  • One year. Renewable with up-to-date training courses

Time Commitment

  • Must attend at least one event every three months (Hours of events vary)
