Blood Services Volunteer Trainer
Location
Various sites throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey
Purpose
Support blood collection by training volunteers in Red Cross orientation and volunteer blood service functions
Key Responsibilities
- Willingness to support Red Cross Mission
- Orient new volunteers to American Red Cross
- Train Red Cross volunteers in registration, donor room and canteen functions
- Determine volunteer competency to perform non-regulated functions at blood drives through observation and documentation
- Train teams of community members to become site-specific blood service volunteers
- Attend relevant meetings
Relationships
Various levels of American Red Cross staff, paid and volunteer
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Blood Service Volunteer OR willing to work a minimum of 3 blood drives (18 hours) before attending “Train the Trainer” session
- Ability to effectively communicate with diverse populations
- Ability to pay attention to detail and accurately complete a variety of paperwork
Training
- Orientation to American Red Cross Penn-Jersey Blood Services Region
- American Red Cross Blood Service Volunteer training
- Two initial training and three team training meetings
- Self-study Trainers Manual (2 hours)
- On-going training support as needed
Time Commitment
- One training session/month ( 2 hour training +1/2 hour documentation process)
- Attend 4 meetings/year and additional training if required
- Training times are flexible and are scheduled based on your availability
