Blood Service Volunteer
Location
Various bloodmobile sites throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey
Purpose
Support blood collection by providing customer service to donors
Key Responsibilities
- Willingness to support Red Cross Mission
- Greet donors and assist with registration
- Escort donors to canteen area
- Be alert and report any adverse donor reactions
- Offer refreshments, appropriate instructions, and conversation
- Explain importance of blood donations and encourage people to donate regularly
- Set up and maintain cleanliness in canteen area
Relationships
Various levels of American Red Cross staff, paid and volunteer
Qualifications
- Minimum age of 15 years
- Ability to effectively communicate with diverse populations
- Ability to read, write, hear and speak English in a legible and understandable manner
- Previous customer service experience preferred
Training
- Orientation to American Red Cross Red Cross Penn-Jersey Blood Services Region
- American Red Cross Blood Service Volunteer Training
- On-site bloodmobile shadowing with senior Blood Service Volunteer
- Training updates as required
Length of Appointment
One year. Renewable with up-to-date training courses
Time Commitment
Must attend two blood drives per month (Six hours each)
