- Blue Tags will be available at all Red Cross Donor Centers and Blood Drives in Central Maryland, Washington D.C., Northern Virginia, and York and Adams Counties in PA.
- If you would like to designate your donation with a Blue Tag, simply as your phlebotomist to tag you unit for a Sickle Cell Disease patient.
- Red Cross technicians will also provide information about this program to all self identified African American donors, and invite them to use the Blue Tag.
- The Blue Tag will identify the donated blood as having come from an African American donor, and it will be tested for special characteristics that may make it a match for a local Sickle Cell patient.
- If a local Sickle Cell patient does not need your blood at this time, it will not be wasted; it will go to another patient in need.
