Step-by-step Implementation Guide
Materials needed for implementation:
Your American Red Cross DRD Representative will provide the following:
- Promotional materials to advertise program to be posted at the school
- Tracking cards and informational brochure to be made available to all students interested in participating in the Red Cord Honors Program
- Red Honor Cord, Lapel Pin and Thank You note which will be furnished to all students who successfully complete the program within time frames established by you, the school advisor, and the Red Cross DRD Representative.

STEP 1 |
Obtain necessary permission to implement American Red Cross Red Cord Honors program at your school from proper school officials, if necessary. Determine if students will be wearing the Red Honor Cords during the school’s graduation ceremony or if they will be receiving them during a school sponsored awards ceremony. (The American Red Cross strongly encourages schools to allow student recognition of their accomplishment during graduation ceremonies).

STEP 2 |
Work with American Red Cross Representative to determine what will be the best way to track and communicate how many cords will be awarded for the school year (examples: email list of students who earned the award or give hard copy list to American Red Cross Representative).

STEP 3 |
Present program to student body, an appropriate school club, or arrange for an American Red Cross Representative to present the program to the students at your school.

STEP 4 |
Partner with the American Red Cross to sponsor and coordinate school blood drives. Promote the program using the promotional materials provided.

STEP 5 |
Receive completed tracking cards from students by established date determined for your school. Compile list of students who should be awarded the Red Honor Cords and give list to American Red Cross Representative by established time frame.

STEP 6 |
Distribute honor cords to the qualifying students to be worn in their graduation ceremony or school sponsored awards ceremony. Print following statement in the school’s graduation or awards ceremony programs:
