Donor Stories
Because volunteer donors have been there for our daughter, we decided to be there for others, too.
When Mikayla was diagnosed with a brain tumor at 5 years-old, we were moved by the kindness of others. People were caring. People were thoughtful. And many were willing to try giving blood as a way to help seriously ill children like Mikayla.
Throughout her illness, Mikayla has had the blood and platelets she needed for ongoing care. And because volunteer donors have been there for our daughter, we decided to be there for others, too. Both of us give when we can and feel good about making a difference to patients and their families.
Mikayla endured nearly 50 weeks of chemotherapy thanks to volunteer donors. Sometimes, in between doctor visits, she asks to stop by the American Red Cross. It’s a time, when Mikalya can say thank you to blood and platelets donors for helping to save her life. And it’s a time we can say thank you, too, by making or keeping our appointments to give.
