The love of a family supports an annual blood drive in honor of a fallen hero...

Nikki Winn’s world changed in May of 2009 when she was told that her brother SSGT. Paul F. Brooks, an Army combat medic had been killed by a suicide bomber in Iraq.  Nikki said, “When I finally quit denying that he was gone, my first thought was that my dad had just lost his best friend, my mom lost a son; my sister, brother and I lost our brother, and his babies lost their daddy.”

A former Red Cross staff member, Nikki came up with a way to honor her brother and other soldiers who have fallen in the line of duty. She proposed a Fallen Soldiers blood drive in his memory and the family completely embraced the idea. Planning for the first blood drive continued for several months and the call to action was heard. The day opened with Nikki, joined by her sister singing the National Anthem bringing tears to the eyes of many of those waiting to donate. The caring community of Jonesboro, Arkansas responded and more than 60 donated needed blood in memory of SSGT. Brooks.     On November 17, 2012 the second annual drive will take place with more than 100 donors expected.  Gone but never forgotten, SSGT. Brooks'  service will be well remembered today by these caring donors and the gifts of life they will share.
