10th Annual Cheboygan “Battle of the Banks”

10:00 AM - 3:45 PM
332 South Western Avenue
Cheboygan, MI

Local Banks join forces to save lives

Cheboygan, MI Cheboygan banks are out for blood in a friendly competition to help maintain a healthy blood supply during the tough summer months. The American Red Cross and Cheboygan-area banks are coming together for the 10th Annual Cheboygan Battle of the Banks blood challenge.

During the summer months, the need for blood typically increases while blood donations decrease. Many donors are busy or traveling, school is out of session and this past May and June, donations dropped to the lowest levels the Red Cross has seen during this timeframe in more than a dozen years. Demand for blood remained steady during this same period, which is why the Red Cross needs people—now more than ever—to roll up a sleeve and give as soon as possible. All types are needed, but O negative is in higher demand since it can be used to treat any patient.

“Last year’s battle brought in 40 pints of blood and we are hoping to collect up to 45 pints this year,“ said Biz Bauer, American Red Cross Donor Recruitment Representative. “ We encourage all eligible donors to help save lives by making an appointment to donate blood.”

The Battle of the Banks blood drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., Tuesday, August 30, at St. Thomas Church (332 South Western Avenue) in Cheboygan.

Four local banks are participating again in this year’s challenge to help save lives through blood collection. The banks participating are: Citizens National Bank, First Community Bank, First Federal and PNC Bank.

As an added incentive for donors, everyone who comes out to donate blood at the Battle of the Banks blood drive has a chance to win a $250 Meijer gift card, a $125 Meijer gas card, and a $500 Best Buy gift card.  For more information about this special challenge and additional upcoming blood drives, call 1-800-REDCROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit www.redcrossblood.org.
