UNCC 49ers For Life
The UNC Charlotte community wants to show how much it bleeds 49er Green! UNCC is teaming up with the American Red Cross for the 5th annual “49ers for Life” blood drive Tuesday, January 21, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Student Activities Center.
Those who come out to donate blood, will receive a free pint of Blue Bell ice cream, along with a specially-designed T-shirt! Those who make and keep their appointments, will also be entered to win a tablet!
Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. Accident victims as well as patients with cancer, sickle cell disease, blood disorders and other illnesses receive lifesaving transfusions every day—patients like UNCC Senior Shamari Inuwa. Shamari lives with sickle cell and must receive blood about every three to four weeks.
"People like me who receive blood—those who are in car accidents, have sickle cell or cancer—we are alive because of the blood,” said UNCC Senior and blood recipient Shamari Inuwa. “Needles aren't that bad, really. You're basically getting pinched for a few seconds compared to someone being in pain or sick all the time. Just think about that."
