I first gave blood in 2012. I have always been a little scared to give blood. The experience was nothing that I expected. Everything went well and I am glad that I gave blood. Maybe it will help someone in need of blood. I gave blood this year and I will give again when the opportunity comes. I encourage others to give blood also.

I always wanted to be a superhero and save lives. Well, I didn't end up learning that I could leap tall buildings in a single bound or stop a speeding bullet, but I did learn that I had a pretty important blood type that was needed to help real heroes like doctors save lives. So now I make sure I donate blood every 8 weeks, so I can stand proud and call myself a hero!

Yesterday was my first time donating! It was amazing! The staffs was so kind and make sure I was ok. I didn't feel any light headed or dizziness. Most of all I'm deaf, they welcome deaf people who want to donate blood! They don't even require an interpreter to be there with you. I'm pretty thankful that I didn't get deferred for being deaf. They were soo interested in deaf people and their language (ASL). Before going to red cross, there was a blood drive at my school that was hosted by a medical center other than red cross. They deferred me just for not having an interpreter that were trained by them. I was so mad about that. Then I went to red cross and they were kind enough to do it for me! I love helping people more than anything in te world! It is great knowing that you are saving 3 people lives. I competing back to red cross to donate again in two months! I can't wait!! Thank you red cross!!!

The first time I ever donated blood was in High School. I only did it to get out of a class. I got very faint and almost passed out but everyone was so helpful and nice. I am so glad I donated that first time and continue to do so 15 years later. I use to get weak and nauseaous everytime I donated but continued to give because it is saving lives! I am O neg and that is the universal blood type, very much needed all over. After I had my child, I have been able to give blood and not get weak. I have given over a gallon of blood and will continue to give till I can't give anymore. IT SAVES LIVES!!!

My grandmother was an avid blood donator. She passed away Dec. 2011. I also lost my mother after an unsuccessful 2 year battle with Cervical Cancer, stage 4 advanced. starting the day after she passed away I started paying back for the love and help that others gave us in this dark time, to hopefully help others. I donated all her medical equipement as well as her depends and 8 cases of Ensure to Gilcrest Hospice of Baltimore. They were a great help to us in her final months. So she had to have a few blood transfusions and she always was afraid there would not be enough blood or bad blood . Then my husband of 20 years had to have several operations and also had to have blood transfusions. So then i decided at m local Hospital that I would start giving blood every chance they were there and that my iron level was high enough to do so. I even had my doctor put me on iron medication cause my iron was low at one drive and i was unable to donate. Thanks to the help of my physcian I was above the level and I was able to donate again. It is a wonderful feeling that I know I may help someone else's family memeber that may need blood or someone who like in my mothers shoes has a terminally ill disease and that my help may further there days on this earth and to continue loving their family. Thank you Red Cross. Please new donors if you read this, PLEASE DONATE IT IS THE BEST FEELING IN THE WORLD THAT YOU CAN HEL TO SAVE SOMEONE'S LIFE...

I donate blood for those who can't. I personally know two people who have beat leukemia and while they are healthy now, they can no longer donate blood. So I donate for them, and others who need it.

I will never forget the first time I donated my junior year in High School. I remember sitting in the waiting area nervous as can be. After they checked all my vitals and I was in the chair ready for them to take my blood, it dawned on me. The pain I was feeling was nothing compared to what the people who were receiving my blood was going through. I have donated about 5 times since then and every time I always remind myself why I am doing it. I will continue to give blood for the rest of my life! :)

I donated at a school blood drive around Valentine's Day this year. I had always wanted to donate blood and I was finally old enough (the first blood drive my school had this year was a month before my 16th birthday). I was really excited to help people in need. I've since been encouraging my friends to donate at our school's next drive. It feels really great to know that I've helped save a life!

I first started donating when I was in my junior year of high school. I've donated three times now, and I will continue to donate. Almost everyone I know is either afraid of needles or doesn't like blood, etc. I'm not squeamish at all, and my hope is to keep donating to fill the shoes of those who are afraid to. It is a cause that I can keep giving and giving to for no cost at all.
