Team Supervisor, Donor Services

Job Description

Description: Responsible for ensuring efficient and effective supervision of blood collections at fixed and/or mobile sites. This includes direct supervision of all whole blood, apheresis and special collections activities at assigned operations. Scope: The incumbent reports to the Collection Operations Manager, Bangor in the Donor Services Department. The incumbent works closely with members of the Apheresis, Donor Center, and Double Red Cell teams and other Blood Services staff. Duties and Responsibilities:Supervises a team of eight to fifteen interdisciplinary staff members. Prepares work performance evaluations for assigned staff in conjunction with Managers, Collections and Operational Compliance. Evaluates, assesses, coaches and counsels assigned staff. Implements, interprets and enforces organizational and departmental policy and procedures and guidelines. Participates in the overall management of the Donor Services department. Supervises daily operations at assigned site(s). Identifies and resolves problems related to collections, donor suitability, donor care, public relations, supplies and equipment. Directs the activities of the staff to achieve smooth, efficient flow of donors as well as a pleasant and courteous environment. Ensures effective customer service to promote a positive, professional image of the American Red Cross Blood Services at all times. Monitors and assesses the performance of all staff members on assigned units. In conjunction with Managers, Collections and Operational Compliance, assesses needs for training of staff and recommends changes in procedure or equipment when needed. Promotes and maintains harmonious relations between staff as well as with volunteers, sponsors, donors and departmental representatives of the American Red Cross Blood Services – New England Region. Participates in training and orientation programs as required. Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, National Red Cross Blood Services Directives (BSD’s), American Association of Blood Banking (AABB) standards and New England Region policies and procedures. Ensures that customer satisfaction is always given top priority. Performs other duties, as assigned.
 
Qualifications: Requires job knowledge equivalent to that attained in three years of college (diploma program in Nursing). Requires total related experience of four to six years with a minimum of one year of supervisory experience. Prior experience in a union environment and blood services collection (Apheresis, Double Red, Whole Blood) operations preferred. Requires the ability to work effectively with a wide variety of internal and external audiences and maintain excellent public relations. Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as excellent time management, problem solving skills, and customer service skills.
