Smyrna Rotary - Holiday Heroes!

Tennessee Valley

December 13, 2012

Red Cross and Smyrna Rotary Club Unite to Save Lives

This Holiday

Give something that means something this holiday. Bypass braving the holiday shopping crowds, the perfect gift can be found at your nearest American Red Cross blood drive or blood donation center. And, unlike the latest fashion trend, video game or piece of jewelry, this gift costs nothing but your time. When you donate blood or platelets, you give the perfect gift – another hug, another laugh, another smile, another chance- to someone in need.

The holidays are a historically tough time for the American Red Cross to collect blood and platelet donations. People are focused on holiday preparations, children are out of school, and families get out of their daily routine and forget to make an appointment to donate blood.

This holiday, the Red Cross is partnering with Smyrna Rotary to help save lives throughout the community.

Please join us Friday, December 21: 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Life Point Church - Smyrna

All presenting donors will receive a Red Cross t-shirt AND will be automatically entered to win a $1,000 American Express gift card as well as a tablet valued at $500!

In addition to the Red Cross giveaways, on Friday, December 21 donors will also take home a special WSMV giveaway item!

To schedule an appointment for this blood drive, call 1-800-RED-CROSS or visit

Most healthy individuals who are at least 17 years of age (16 with parental consent) and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds are eligible to donate blood.  Individuals 18 years of age or younger must also meet specific height and weight requirements. The Tennessee Valley Blood Region serves about 60 hospitals and must have 600 people donate blood or platelets each weekday to meet the needs of hospital patients.
